The girl died at a hospital after Friday’s shooting at a subdivision. Police said witnesses saw a mask-wearing suspect run from the shooting scene. A neighbor, Megan Cinder, told WWBT-TV said she heard people down the street yelling, “Gunman!”“My son was crying because he was scared.

RICHMOND, Va. – Authorities in Virginia say a technology error allowed almost 6,000 Richmond-area residents to sign up to get COVID-19 vaccinations even though they weren’t eligible to get them. Officials in Henrico County say a county scheduling system accidentally sent a sign-up link to people currently ineligible for the vaccine and that will not be able to get it. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the improper sign-ups represent more than half the number of are residents who flooded the site Thursday night and forced the demand to far exceed the 6,000-dose supply allotted for schools and public safety workers.

RICHMOND, Va. – A Virginia high school will no longer use a Confederate-related nickname, officials announced. Douglas S. Freeman High School in Henrico County will drop the name "Rebels" based on the results of a community poll and a recommendation from a school committee that supported the change, news outlets reported Thursday. Nearly two-thirds of the poll's 1,500 respondents voted to change it, The Richmond Times-Dispatch said. The school's mascot was once a Confederate soldier, but it swapped out the visual mascot with a logo using the school's initials in recent years, according to news outlets. The nickname and the mascot were inspired by Douglas Southall Freeman, the Richmond journalist, historian and author that the school was named after, news outlets said.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE: April 13Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center announced Monday that in total, 42 people have died in connection with the outbreak at the center. There are still 84 Canterbury residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus, while 35 have tested negative. There currently are 84 Canterbury residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus. All Canterbury staff members have been tested for the virus and 25 Canterbury healthcare workers have tested positive with some test results remain outstanding. RICHMOND, Va. – A Virginia long-term care facility that tested all of its residents because of the scope of its coronavirus outbreak announced more deaths Thursday, bringing the total to 16, but said many residents who tested positive showed no signs of being ill. The testing more than doubled the number of confirmed cases at Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, according to a statement from the Henrico County facility. Ninety-two in-house or hospitalized residents tested positive, the statement said, up from a total earlier in the week of 41. Relatives of patients have expressed grave concerns about their loved ones. The facility has said all COVID-19 patients at Canterbury are being treated in an isolated unit with dedicated staff.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – A third person living in Henrico County has died after contracting the coronavirus. Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center announced Wednesday that a total of three residents who had the virus have died. In total, 14 Canterbury residents have tested positive for the virus. Two are hospitalized, while the nine others are being treated at Canterbury in an isolated unit with a dedicated nursing staff. Also, four Canterbury workers have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Henrico County Sheriff Mike Wade says deputies discovered an injured 42-year-old man around 3 a.m. Sunday at the county's Regional Jail West. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Wade says the man's jaw had been broken in at least two places and both of his arms were broken from defensive wounds. Wade says the man's cellmates have been isolated and charges are pending. Sheriff's deputies, Henrico police and the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office are investigating.

HENRICO, Va. - At least 60 people in Henrico woke up to a strange find on their front lawn -- an old-school TV set, according to NBC 12. Its really weird, Adrian Garner told the NBC affiliate, looking over the home security footage that caught one of TV-headed suspects. My first reaction was, Did we order this?
