Police bust possible mobile meth lab in dollar store parking lot
The Louisa County Sheriffs Office received a bulletin from Rockingham County Sheriffs Office at approximately 5:30pm Saturday, advising to be on the lookout for Richard A. Hines, a 54 year-old-male who was said to be possibly suicidal and wanted out of their jurisdiction. An LCSO deputy observed the red Toyota pickup in the parking lot of the Trevilians Dollar General. Hines was found with the vehicle and taken into custody for the Rockingham County charges without incident. In searching the back of the vehicle, a bag containing items consistent with the making of Meth was located. Eight dead in Virginia after crashes over Memorial Day weekend
RICHMOND, Va. Eight people are dead after eleven crashes across the commonwealth over Memorial Day weekend. According to Virginia State Police, this is a decrease from not deaths on the road but also traffic over the holiday weekend when compared to 2019. In total, Virginia State Police says troopers responded to 480 total traffic crashes during that time. The deadly crashes happened in Virginia Beach, Caroline County, Montgomery County, Pittsylvania County, Prince William County, Rockingham County, Southampton County and Sussex County. According to state police, Virginia troopers statewide cited 2,489 reckless drivers and arrested 70 impaired drivers.
N.C. police chase ends in Franklin County after woman reportedly fired shots into a building
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. A North Carolina woman is facing charges after a police chase ended in Franklin County, according to Virginia State Police. North Carolina authorities stopped their pursuit in Henry County when they lost sight of the Jeep, and Virginia State Police took over. Authorities say they tried to pull over the Jeep, but the driver sped off, reaching 100 mph at on point. The driver, Heather Marie Ward, 25, of Eden, N.C. was taken into custody without incident, according to Virginia State Police. Ward has been charged with felony elude and reckless driving by Virginia State Police.
Crash closes several I-81 lanes in Rockingham County
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. – A crash has closed several lanes going both directions on I-81 in Rockingham County, according to VDOT. Authorities say the crash happened near mile marker 251. As of 10:15 a.m., the north left shoulder and left lane are closed as well as the south left shoulder and left lane.
13 Highland organizations awarded $136,855 in grant money
HARRISONBURG A competitive application process resulted in grant awards to 13 Highland County nonprofit groups this month. Thousands of dollars raised ahead of ride to remember murdered Henry County family
HENRY COUNTY, Va. - This year's ride to remember a murdered Southwest Virginia family could be the biggest ever. The Jennifer Short memorial ride will take off from Victory Baptist Church in Henry County around noon Saturday. It will end at the bridge in Rockingham County, North Carolina, where Jennifer's remains were found. Jennifer's remains were found six weeks after her parents were found shot to death in their Henry County home in 2002. All of the money from the ride is used to fund scholarships for Bassett High School students.
Proposed bill to add tolls to Interstate 81 has some truck drivers, truck companies concerned
