The Lynchburg Police Department announced that it had arrested a man on weapons and drug charges and an LPD officer has been put on restricted duty after a foot pursuit in which the officer fired a single shot from their department-issued weapon on Wednesday.
A trial date has been set for Tony Brown, the man who was shot by Lynchburg Police while he was stabbing a woman to death in Nov. 2023.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The family of a Central Virginia inmate is speaking out, claiming their loved one was assaulted by a Lynchburg jail officer. 10 News won’t go into graphic detail, but we’re told the Lynchburg Police Department is investigating the allegations. ALTAVISTA, Va. A man has been arrested after authorities say he shot an apartment building in Altavista on Monday. According to police, Matel Stone, 21, of Nathalie was charged with the reckless handling of a firearm, discharge of a firearm or missile at an occupied building, discharge of a firearm in a public place and disorderly conduct. Stone was arrested on Wednesday by the Campbell County Sheriffs Office and taken to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where he is being held without bond. Authorities say this is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Altavista Police Department at 434-369-7425.
