In his new initiative, Rotonda is visiting every state in the U.S. to raise money and awareness for homeless and unwanted pets, and his first stop in Virginia will be the Roanoke Valley SPCA. โWe are thrilled to be chosen as one of only five shelters featured from the Commonwealth of Virginia,โ said Denise Hayes, chief executive officer of the Roanoke Valley SPCA. He has seven more shelters in Virginia to visit.

The Roanoke Valley SPCA announced they will have a monthly drive-thru pet food pantry to help those in the community. It will take place at the Roanoke Valley SPACA parking lot on the second Sunday of each month from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Staff and volunteers will ask for basic information on your pet and put food in the back seat or trunk. The first event will be on Sunday, Oct. 11 in the shelter parking lot.

The shelterโs CEO said she was relieved knowing that the volunteers, staff and animals will be healthy. โDoing the best we can at all times and being able to provide something of this caliber has been really exciting,โ said Roanoke Valley SPCA CEO Denise Hayes. The shelter is open by appointment only so that people can adopt cats or dogs looking for a forever home.

Leaders cut the ribbon on the building Thursday afternoon after two months of repairs. The building had been open for cat adoptions for a week, but Thursdayโs ceremony marked the return of dogs to the complex. The Roanoke Valley SPCA needed $300,000 to fix structural problems with the building and to replace a broken HVAC system. โIt has been great today to finally cut the ribbon and welcome everyone back to the revitalized shelter," said Roanoke Valley SPCA CEO Denise Hayes.

WSLS partnered with the Roanoke Valley SPCA and Lynchburg Humane Society Saturday to bring awareness to the need for pets to be adopted. The Roanoke Valley SPCA got 35 pets adopted, 33 on Saturday and two on Sunday. The Lynchburg Humane Society got 42 pets adopted Saturday. Since 2015, 250,000 pets have been adopted thanks to Clear The Shelters.
