10 News Meteorologist Jeff Haniewich visited the Omni Homestead in Hot Springs earlier this week and celebrated the resort’s 260th Birthday.

Snow is on the way this weekend, but ski resorts can’t always count on natural flurries. Our 10 News Meteorologist, Jeff Haniewich, visited the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs to check out how they make snow when nature doesn’t cooperate.

The charity ride has raised over $20 million in support of Victory Junction, a camp that supports kids with chronic illnesses.

"It's the people you meet along the way and have a lasting impression on you," Petty said.

Elections officials, poll workers and voters in western North Carolina have been adapting in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene's destruction.

The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on the deadly Bath County plane crash that resulted in the deaths of five individuals: three men, one woman and a 3-year-old boy.

10 News is learning new details about that fatal crash in Bath County that left five people dead over the weekend.

Following Sunday's plane crash in Hot Springs, Virginia we're looking at challenges brought on by flying in the mountains.

According to Virginia State Police, the Virginia Office of the Medical Examiner has confirmed the identities of the victims of the plane crash at Ingalls Field Airport in Bath County on March 10.

On Thursday, the Omni Homestead Resort announced that the long-awaited moment is here – the Warm Springs Pools will officially reopen on Saturday, Dec. 17.

When you step inside the Omni Homestead Resort, you’ll now see a Christmas tradition.

On Sept. 15, a hot air balloon made its second trip to the skies at Omni Homestead Resort in support of its campaign for Hunger Action Month.

The hope is by elevating the campaign, Omni’s total donations will reach close to 22 million meals.

Our Camp Tour rolls to the Highlands where Bath County alum Jake Phillips has returned as head coach. Phillips is no stranger to winning, he helped lead Bath to a state title in 2001, finishing his high school career with nearly 10,000 yards of offense before heading to William and Mary.

HOT SPRINGS, Va. – With many people staying indoors and limiting travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Forbes is stepping in to help. Forbes writer Peter Taylor compiled a list of 10 best places to travel and Bath County’s own Hot Springs made the list. Hot Springs was listed as a safe area to visit with a total of 246 coronavirus cases, 8 total deaths and no new cases in the past week. For history enthusiasts, Hot Springs is also home to the Omni Homestead Resort which 23 U.S. Presidents have stayed at in the past 200 years. After a relaxing day, you can go on a hike or bike riding right outside of the downtown area.

HOT SPRINGS, Va. – February is the month of love and two local chefs at The Omni Homestead are cooking up a sweet life together. 10 News sat down to talk to them about falling in love in the kitchen and the best thing they have created together so far. Newlyweds Todd and Kelly Owen spend a lot of time together here in the Homestead kitchen. “Not everybody is able to work together, but I think we do really well at it. HOT SPRINGS, Va. – Grab your winter gear and get ready to hit the slopes at night. The Omni Homestead is keeping its tubing park open until after dark for Tubing, Brews and BBQ. The resort announced that every Saturday until the end of February, they’ll turn on the lights and the tubing slopes will stay open until 6:30 p.m.Staff said they tried this out earlier this month and it was a huge hit with guests. “Guests who have come for tubing in the past it’s always been during the daylight hours and now with the evening hours we’re able to turn the lights on, it’s a little bit different experience, a little bit more fun and just really kind of a great way to end the day,” said Lynn Swann from Omni Homestead. After the slopes close, you can head inside to Kobers at the Mountain Lodge for BBQ and regional brews until 7:30 p.m.

HOT SPRINGS, Va. – Starting next year, Bath County’s biggest employer is making some major changes. Beginning Jan. 4, the Omni Homestead Resort will be open from Noon Thursday until 3 p.m. Sundays. “As we enter into the new year at The Omni Homestead Resort, we have made the very difficult decision to alter our hours of operation in January. HOT SPRINGS, Va. – The Homestead is keeping tradition alive by raising a donated Christmas tree in the Great Hall. Kathleen Knighton’s daughter called The Homestead last year offering to donate the tree. Staff drove to Covington to check it out and agreed the tree was a fit. “We thought it was 18 feet and it measured at over 20 feet the day that we brought it in,” said Sarah Braxton, special events and marketing manager. Knighton says she was happy to donate the tree.

Getting to the heart of Hot Springs is an easy and gorgeous day’s drive. Stacey Sexton is the general manager for Natural Retreats, Hot Springs, and works and lives in the area. Natural Retreats is a company that manages 13 homes in the Hot Springs area. Hot Springs, and the neighboring town of Warm Springs, aren’t just named that way for show. Other presidents such as James Madison have also visited Hot Springs to take advantage of their healing properties.

HOT SPRINGS, Va. – Kids love sending mail to the North Pole at Christmas, but now some children are putting their stamp on mail heading out of this world. It’s a place to step back in time, but one featured activity will be stepping into the future: postcards to space! I love space!’ I just love thinking about like what’s all up there,” said 7th grader, Brooke Hess. We carried 23 payloads today including thousands of postcards from kids all over the world for @ClubforFuture. The idea of postcards to space is certainly thinking outside the box.

There’s no arguing: Fall is one of the most breathtaking seasons in Virginia. Many are choosing to mark the season with a road trip, and the Alleghany Highlands region is a popular choice. Officials with the Omni Homestead Resort said fall is the perfect time to visit Hot Springs. Swann said with more than 2,000 acres, the Homestead has something for everyone this fall, from the Cascades Golf Course, to horseback and carriage rides, to hiking to Falling Spring Falls. Tourism officials said many choose to take their road trip further and make stops in places like Charlottesville, Richmond and Williamsburg.

HOT SPRINGS, Va. – As many look forward to entering Phase Three Wednesday, one Bath County business is focusing on safety first. In a post on social media, Country Café informed customers for the time being it will continue with just takeout. While the owner said she isn’t worried about The Homestead welcoming back guests, she does want to do her part to protect employees and the county’s large elderly population. “With Bath County being one of the only counties in the state of Virginia still with zero cases, you know, we took that into consideration and what we can do to help to keep that level low,” said Shannon Boguess, Country Café owner. Boguess said watching numbers increase in across the nation impacted her decision to keep the dining room closed.

The Omni Homestead Resort was forced to shut down for three months because of the pandemic. We closed the resort on March 29 and now three months later, June 29, we are reopening to our guests, said Lynn Swann, director of marketing and communications for the Omni Homestead Resort. The resort is also reopening to employees. Changes include barriers separating associates from guests, enforced social distancing, strict cleaning policies, daily health screenings for workers and limited amenities. The Homestead reopening is good news for the entire area, as the resort is Bath County's largest employer.

BATH COUNTY, Va. - Despite conflicting reports, Rockbridge County officials say there wasn't a plane crash near Ingalls Field Airport in Hot Springs on Friday. Authorities say a plane had mechanical difficulties and landed in a field a few miles south of the airport in Rockbridge County. The pilot landed in an available field, with no incident or damage to the plane, according to Kevin Moore, Rockbridge County Emergency Management Coordinator.
