Nearly 2.1 million Virginians will travel this Thanksgiving holiday, marking a 1.1% increase from last year, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. The surge comes despite economic uncertainties, as Americans continue to prioritize holiday travel and family gatherings.

Average gasoline prices in Roanoke have increased by 5.8 cents per gallon over the past week, now averaging $3.01, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 155 stations.

The national average price for regular gas sits at $3.21 per gallon. However, that price is expected to go up as a result of Israel’s June 13 attack on Iran.

According to a new report from GasBuddy, the average price for regular gas in Virginia on Sunday was $2.96 per gallon, up just over a penny from the previous week. In Roanoke, prices ranged from $2.65 to $3.16 per gallon, a 51-cent difference.
