The Hokies have been headed in the opposite direction..losers of four straight..and with an offense that’s been ravaged by injuries. The backup quarterback, redshirt junior quarterback Lindell Stone was forced to step in in the second quarter. “Yeah Lendell Stone is our quarterback. He understands coverage so quickly, understands them pre-snap and maximizes his resources,” head Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall said. Meanwhile Virginia tech suffered its first loss on Saturday to the high octane Tar Heels.
Virginia suffers 38-21 loss to NC State
Virginia scored 14 consecutive points after going down 24-0 to NC State early in the game. That set up his first career touchdown pass to wide receiver Billy Kemp IV (Highland Springs, Va.). NC State scored again when it returned an interception for a touchdown. The Cavaliers attempted an onside kick, but it was recovered by NC State. It was the first interception yielded this season by NC State quarterback Devin Leary.
Lawrence's 3 TDs lead No. 1 Clemson to 41-23 win vs Virginia
CLEMSON, S.C. – Trevor Lawrence was happy with Clemson's win over Virginia. Lawrence threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns as Clemson opened 3-0 for the sixth straight year with a 41-23 victory over the Cavaliers on Saturday night. However, like so often the past few years when pressed, Clemson and Lawrence found what it took to succeed. Rodgers had two TD catches in the final six minutes of the opening half to give Clemson a 24-3 lead that Virginia could not overcome. That's when Lawrence found Etienne for a final scoring throw to restore Clemson's momentum.
