The Liberty and Jefferson Forest high school YOVASO clubs were among the 15 award winners recognized during the annual Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety (YOVASO) Awards Banquet held Saturday night, July 16, at James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg, Va. A Liberty High School teacher was also recognized, as well as two students from Jefferson Forest High School. From Roanoke Co., Northside High School was recognized, as well as a Life Counselor at the school.
Liberty High School in Bedford to release students early on Friday due to HVAC repair issues
Liberty High School will be letting its students out early Friday due to ongoing HVAC repair issues. School officials said while classes are currently at comfortable temperatures, that could change as temperatures rise throughout the day.
Authorities found missing Bedford County 16-year-old

Jacob Ashman was last seen around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday near Liberty High School, deputies said. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Jacob left his house on foot wearing grey sweat pants with a grey hoodie and pink shoes with neon pink writing. Video shows school resource officer slamming Florida high school student to ground
A video widely circulated on social media shows a school resource officer in Florida slamming a female student to the ground. The video, which had been viewed more than 70,000 times as of late Tuesday night, shows the deputy forcefully throwing her onto a concrete walkway. The officer is an employee of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, which said Tuesday evening that it's collecting video and witness statements. Bedford, Va./Riner, Va. – Liberty High School softball was ready for the 2020 season after winning the Class 3 state title a year ago. “Really excited about what we had, but at the same time you’re constantly thinking about who youre going to play and what not,” Liberty head softball coach Mike Thompson said. The Auburn star shortstop committed to play softball at Radford, and was ready for her final season, hoping to defend Auburn’s Class 1 title. Coaches have been told to treat this new time as a dead period, which means limited contact with the players pertaining to softball. And even though Boyd is heading off to play at the next level, there’s no replacement for a high school senior season.

Former Bedford County SRO pleads guilty to having inappropriate relationship with teen
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. - A Bedford County school resource officer pleaded guilty to having an inappropriate relationship with a teenager in Juvenile and Domestic court Friday. Clark resigned shortly after the complaint, according to the special prosecutor, Andrew Nester from Henry County. The arrest and his fingerprint will stay on record for the rest of his life, according to the special prosecutor. Because Clark pleaded guilty, if he breaks this agreement, the special prosecutor says he will be sentenced. We reached out to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office for comment at the time this article was posted we had not heard back.
Warrants reveal Former Bedford County SRO was in a relationship with a teenage girl
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. - A former Bedford County school resource officer is facing charges for having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Daniel Clark last October and determined he contributed to the delinquency of a minor who attended Liberty High School, where he was the school's resource officer. Text messages from Clark to the teenage girl in October say that he'll be home for the weekend and that he wants to "snuggle all day and just chill," according to search warrants. In addition to sending texts and Snapchats, Clark allegedly spent time with the girl at school in his office, the lunchroom, hallways, the gym and parking lot. Clark was placed on administrative leave when the investigation started and is now no longer working for the Sheriff's Office.
Liberty High School hosting high level talent at Bedford Border Battle
BEDFORD, Va. - There's nothing quite like the sweet squeak of sneaks in the summer. Liberty High School is hosting the innaugural Bedford Border Battle Tournament this weekend, featuring schools from all over Virginia and West Virginia. "It's honestly huge because normally we don't get to play teams from other states," senior Camron Kirkland said. "Tony was a big part of what we were doing program-wise and just a community individual that was so caring towards our players, towards our athletes and students at Liberty high school," Liberty High School head coach Randy Dunton said. There's a whole lot more talent coming in, more stars, and a whole lot of fun," Kirkland finished.
Architects design the new Bedford Middle School as a 'school of the future'
BEDFORD (WSLS 10) - Architects are finalizing plans for a new Bedford Middle School. The school will be built next to Liberty High School. When Bedford reverted from a city to a town, a new middle school was part of the agreement. The Bedford County Board of Supervisors approved $44 million for the new middle school and a new, upgraded gym at Liberty High School. Construction of the new middle school is expected to start this fall.
