SROs are currently assigned to the countyโs six secondary schools, but regularly patrol the other 14 sites -- which allows law enforcement to be present in every school every day. The grant ensures an SRO is assigned to a particular school.

Bedford County, Va. โ Normally during the holidays, you have to worry about porch pirates. The Bedford County Sheriffโs Office is warning residents to stay vigilant after reports of mail being stolen from mailboxes. People residing in Body Camp and Huddleston are reporting their mail being ripped open and then tossed on the side of the road. The sheriffโs office asks if anyone spots mail on the ground to not touch it, rather give them a call. โWhen you get home from work get your mail out of your mailboxes, take it inside,โ Major Jon Wilks with Bedford County Sheriffโs Office said.
Bedford County group wants cops, others โdetainedโ for enforcing COVID-19 restrictions
BEDFORD, Va. โ Another large crowd of people packed into the Bedford County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday night as they continued to ask county leaders to push back against Governor Northamโs latest COVID-19 restrictions. And, going one step farther than a resolution recently passed in Campbell County, they want cops and other state agents detained for enforcing the rules. About a half dozen people spoke at the podium and about 50 people in total filled the room at Mondayโs meeting. Isiah Knight is a standout in the group and said he doesnโt support pandemic restrictions, nor those enforcing them. Knight wants the county to pass their version of the resolution, following Campbell Countyโs lead, but with the ability to detain.
Bedford County Sheriffโs Office distributes Thanksgiving meals to families in need
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ The Bedford County Sheriffโs Office was out on patrol ahead of Thanksgiving. They werenโt fighting crime, but delivering meals to families in need. Sheriff Mike Miller said they want to help families facing hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic. โItโs time for us to return thanks. Weโve been very blessed, and now itโs our time to return the thanks to someone else.โThe Sheriffโs Office worked with local schools and social services to identify the meal recipients.
Bedford County drug roundup nets 24 arrests, 10 still wanted
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ Ten people remain wanted after members of the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office and U.S. Of those 31, 21 are now in custody, with three others arrested on unrelated charges during some of the operationโs arrests. The roundup is a partnership between the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office, Virginia State Police and U.S. And that goes for all drug dealers and everyone thatโs doing illegal stuff in our county,โ said Miller. Bedford County deputy recovering from minor injuries after crash
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ A Bedford County deputy is alive after she lost control of her patrol vehicle and rolled down an embankment. According to the Bedford County Sheriff Department, the single-car crash happened shortly after 8pm Monday. The deputy was responding to an assault in the Goodview area of the county, when the vehicle lost traction off the edge of the road and drove off the shoulder. โThis is a very windy, curving road and thatโs one of the hazards, if you would, in Bedford County. But one thing about our deputies is they drive about 300 miles a shift,โ said Sheriff Mike Miller.
Sheriff believes Bedford County deadly shooting was unintentional
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ Bedford County authorities are releasing more information about a deadly shooting on Wednesday evening. Mathew Paul Beach, 30, of Bedford, died after being shot, according to the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office. Sheriff Mike Miller said the initial investigation into the shooting leads him to believe the shooting was unintentional. ORIGINAL STORYAuthorities in Bedford County said they responded to an incident involving a firearm on Wednesday night. Bedford County dispatch received a call regarding an incident in the 2800 block of Wheats Valley Road, according to Bedford County Sheriff Mike Miller.
Steal a campaign sign? You could face jail time.
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ Virginia law enforcement is reminding the public that regardless of your political affiliation, itโs against the law to illegally remove or vandalize campaign signs. In Bedford County, Sheriff Mike Miller said signs have been removed, painted over and some even appeared to be shot at. โItโs larceny if they steal a sign and itโs property damage if we catch them vandalizing a sign. So, it is a misdemeanor and it can be punishment up to a fine and jail time,โ said Miller. Miller said the Bedford County Sheriffโs Department has responded to 13 calls regarding vandalized signs since June.

Bedford County deputys close call urges importance of move over law
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. The Bedford County Sheriffs Office is urging the importance of the move over law after one of its deputies had a close call on Saturday while investigating a traffic crash. The deputy was just outside of Bedford town limits on Route 460 when a vehicle hit his car at a high speed. Luckily, according to the Sheriffs Office, the deputy wasnt in his car at the time of the crash. 'Everybody goes home': Bedford County Sheriff's Office peacefully solves standoff situation
BEDFORD, Va. - A tense, hostile situation ended peacefully Monday night, thanks to the work of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. "Every day we sign on the radio, our goal is to bring every situation to a successful conclusion," said Capt. Mike Miller at the Sheriff's Office. At one point, Miller says Saunders fired a shotgun in the direction of the deputies. The Sheriff's Office says criminal charges are pending against him.
