Before the meeting, the president attended a morning Mass at the aptly named St. Patrickโs Church near his family home in Wilmington, Delaware, then returned to the White House to partake in the St. Patrickโs Day celebrations, which were toned down due to the coronavirus pandemic. In keeping with recent tradition, the water in fountains outside the White House ran green for the day. Biden and Martin also emphasized their commitment to addressing global challenges and combating the coronavirus, among other issues, the White House said.
Roanoke mayor scorns late night St. Patrickโs Day celebrations downtown
ROANOKE, Va. โ Hundreds of people flocked to downtown Roanoke Saturday night to celebrate St. Patrickโs Day, but Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea believes their decision may set the city back in its battle against COVID-19. โWe do not want another spread that could affect me, you and others if we have a spread in this city again,โ Lea said. Lea said while Roanokeโs COVID-19 vaccination rates are improving, they are not high enough in his opinion for gatherings as large as of Saturday nightโs festivities. He says he will look to enforce COVID-19 capacity guidelines more harshly in the city after the celebrations. What we want to do is save lives.โLea said restaurants are liable to face punishment if they violated capacity guidelines on Saturday.
St. Patrickโs Day crowd comes to Roanoke, despite lack of a parade
ROANOKE, Va. โ Roanoke was not able to host its trademark St. Patrickโs Day Parade for the second straight year, but a crowd still came downtown to celebrate the occasion on Saturday. Many people who came out said theyโre celebrating not just St. Patrickโs Day, but the optimism of declining COVID-19 cases and loosened restrictions. He came downtown because heโs grateful to live another day after his battle. โWhen youโre in a hospital and youโre on oxygen, you may or may not come out,โ Seligman said. Martinโs owner Jason Martin said the day gives him hope that the parade and normal celebrations can return in 2022.

ROANOKE, Va. โ Hundreds of events across Virginia and the nation have been canceled due to the coronavirus crisis, but restaurants in downtown Roanoke still went on with their St. Patrickโs Day plans. Two restaurants held large celebrations on Saturday, despite the cancellation of Roanokeโs St. Patrickโs Day Parade scheduled for the same day. In text messages to 10 News, owner Jason Martin said St. Patrickโs Day is the busiest and most important day for the restaurant. He said attendance dipped by 25 percent due to the coronavirus crisis and the cancelled parade. Corned Beef and Company also held an outdoor event on the stretch of Jefferson Street outside of its restaurant.

Roanoke seeking volunteers for its St. Patrickโs Day Parade
ROANOKE, Va. โ Roanokeโs St. Patrickโs Day Parade is right around the corner, but the city needs your help for it to run smoothly. Downtown Roanoke Inc. needs up to 70 volunteers to assist with parade operations. Volunteer jobs include lining up the parade floats, checking IDs and serving concessions. The organization does have some volunteers who help with the parade every year, but more are needed this year because of some special guests. The parade takes place on March 14.

ROANOKE, Va. โ There will be a new addition to Roanokeโs annual St. Patrickโs Day parade this year. The world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales will take part in the March 14 parade in downtown Roanoke. The eight-horse hitch will be harnessed and hitched to the famous red beer wagon for the annual parade that starts at 11 a.m. The โGentle Giants,โ as they are often referred to, will guide the beer wagon on the parade route traveling down Jefferson Street to Campbell Avenue, ending at Williamson Road. As we await their arrival, here are some fun facts about the Clydesdales:
