Buchanan woman completes Drumstick Dash despite lifelong health challenges
ROANOKE, Va – The Roanoke Rescue Mission’s annual Drumstick Dash moved to a virtual race in 2020, but that didn’t stop one Buchanan woman from pursuing her dream. Kelly Berry and her mother Teresa said Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without the Drumstick Dash. “It’s been an interesting year with the virtual races because a lot of people are missing important races; I know I do,” Kelly Berry said. “To all the ones that can’t make it home, ‘Happy Thanksgiving,’” Kelly Berry said. ROANOKE, Va – Exclusive swag? Organizers of the annual Drumstick Dash are encouraging people to register before Monday to get some additional swag this year. This year’s race, hosted by Roanoke Rescue Mission, will be virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions. The first 2,500 people who sign up for the race before Monday will get an exclusive hooded t-shirt that’s completely new this year. All the proceeds from the run go to helping feed thousands of people at the Roanoke Rescue Mission each year.
Drumstick Dash, Salem Half Marathon shift to virtual-only plans
ROANOKE, Va – The annual Drumstick Dash in Roanoke does much more than get people up and move before that big Thanksgiving meal. The event raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Roanoke Rescue Mission to help feed those in need. On Tuesday, the Roanoke Rescue Mission announced its annual race would be virtual, allowing people to run throughout the month of November. Berry said the demand for services at the Rescue Mission has gone up during the pandemic. The annual Salem Half Marathon is also going virtually.

Drumstick Dash still looking for runners, volunteers
ROANOKE, Va. – The Drumstick Dash is just two days away. The Thanksgiving Day race in Roanoke brings out thousands of people every year. Organizers are again asking for volunteers for Thursday to help serve as race marshals, crowd control personnel and race guides. Atlantic Union Bank donates thousands to Drumstick Dash cause
ROANOKE, Va. – Atlantic Union Bank donated $23,000 on Tuesday in support of a Roanoke Thanksgiving tradition. The money donated to the annual Thanksgiving Drumstick Dash will support Rescue Mission’s food services. Atlantic Union Bank is the main sponsor for the 5K. More than 1,000 already signed up for Drumstick Dash
