The fair is Saturday, Feb. 27 noon to 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army’s gym located at 724 Dale Avenue SE. Once inside, there will be a variety of socially distanced stations with residents from LewisGale psychiatric, family medicine and internal medicine departments. During a time where stress and anxiety are at an all-time high, Price-Clarke felt it was critical the event included mental health too. We want to make sure that they’re given the proper information to take care of their physical and mental health and mental health right now is something we really do need to focus on,” said Price-Clarke.

ROANOKE, Va. – The Salvation Army partnered with Kroger to unveil a new community pantry Friday. Salvation Army Captain Russell Clay said the need for their services has grown to 47% this year due to main factors like the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea was in the works for nearly a year, and it’s now a reality where families can visit the Salvation Army on Dale Avenue to receive a box of food. Though the pantry is intended to serve the Roanoke Valley, Clay said he cannot turn down a person in need. “We got too many kids in this area that need to be fed and you know, they need to get food,” said Clay.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg has reopened its Center of Hope facility this week after a positive coronavirus test last month. The shelter had been on lockdown since November 20 for deep cleaning and sanitizing. The facility’s family services program also resumed Monday, while the community meal program is set to pick back up Wednesday.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Salvation Army of Greater Lynchburg is shutting down its shelter after an individual tested positive for COVID-19. The organization announced Friday that their Center of Hope facility is on lockdown until Dec. 4 for deep cleaning and sanitizing. The community feeding program has been put on hold, and the lockdown also affects their Thanksgiving event. “Sadly, we will have to cancel our Thanksgiving feeding, but we’re hoping to postpone that to December because we still want to serve the community. The Salvation Army’s adjacent Community Center, as well as their Red Kettle and Angel Tree programs, have not been impacted.

This week, the Salvation Army announced its biggest fundraiser of the year is starting two months early. Captain Jaime Clay of Salvation Army Roanoke said their focus will be making the process touchless to protect volunteers and anyone who wants to donate. Closer to the holidays you will see red kettles, but not nearly as many as you would typically see. The organization said a lot more people have lost their jobs because of the pandemic and need help. With the increase of families coming for assistance, its hard to provide services for everybody.
