While a deputy was on patrol on Sylvatus Highway on Route 100, authorities said he saw a vehicle making a traffic violation while turning onto Shockley Road. The Sheriff’s Office said the deputy initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as 43-year-old Steven Russell Maxey. According to authorities, the deputy saw a glass smoking device, commonly used for illegal narcotics, in plain view inside the glove department while asking for Maxey’s documentation. Maxey was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II drug and driving while revoked - DUI related, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – A man in Carroll County is charged with malicious wounding after a domestic dispute led to a shooting on Monday, authorities said. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the Buckwoods Community for a domestic dispute. Deputies said they found the stepfather afterward who said that he shot the stepson out of self-defense. Both the stepfather and stepson were taken to a magistrate where warrants and a protective order were served, according to authorities. The Sheriff’s Office said that both subjects are pending arraignment in Carroll County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – Deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office are searching for two people who they believe broke into a car Friday night. According to deputies, the vehicle was broken into near the football field at Carroll County High School just after 7:30 p.m. Friday. Witnesses described the suspects to deputies as a black male and a pregnant black female, both in a Ford F-150 pickup. Two men are facing charges after a physical fight led to one of them getting shot and being flown to a local hospital, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Once officers arrived, deputies say they identified the man with the gunshot wound as Michael Richardson. Authorities say Richardson was taken to Twin County Regional Hospital for treatment and was later released. Authorities say they believe this started as a physical fight that escalated to Richardson getting shot. Richardson has been charged with felony malicious wounding and was taken to the New River Valley Regional Jail with no bond.
