Republican David Owen held a narrow lead over Democrat Susanna Gibson in a Virginia House of Delegates race that drew attention after revelations that Gibson engaged in sex acts with her husband on a pornographic website, but the margin left the race too early to call.

Montgomery County Supervisor Sherri Blevins announces bid for 7th House District seat
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. โ Current Montgomery County Supervisor Sherri Blevins has announced that she is seeking the Republican nomination for the 7th House District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. Blevins said that she was saddened that the current 7th House District Delegate, Nick Rush, is not seeking re-election and added that his leadership helped her serve on the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors. Her first term as the Montgomery County Supervisor for District B began in 2019. If elected, she aspires to โprotect conservative valuesโ and make the New River Valley an ideal place to live. Virginia Del. Nick Rush to not seek re-election
Nick Rush announced on Wednesday morning that he is not seeking re-election in the Virginia House of Delegates. Rush has represented the 7th House District, which covers the New River Valley, since he was first elected in November of 2011. โIt has been a true honor and incredible privilege to have served in the General Assembly for the past 10 years and I will forever be humbled by the trust placed in me to carry out the peopleโs work,โ Rush wrote on Facebook. Throughout his tenure, he proposed legislation that established the Tech Talent Investment Program, assisted with the Jefferson College of Health Sciences merger and more. Rep. Ben Cline says heโll object the Electoral College certification process
Congressman Ben Cline announced Tuesday that he will support objections to the Electoral College certification process on Wednesday. Cline, who represents Virginiaโs 6th Congressional District, joins other congressmen planning to reject Joe Bidenโs Electoral College win. In addition, the state Legislatures have enacted laws with detailed election rules and procedures by which voters are to choose their presidential electors. Our founders set up a system of, by, and for the people that placed the state Legislatures at its very heart, and that heart still beats strongly today. Virginiaโs 6th Congressional District, which contains all of Amherst County, Augusta County, Bath County, Botetourt County, Highland County, Page County, Rockbridge Couty, Rockingham County, Shenandoah County, Warren County, Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Staunton, Waynesboro and parts of Bedford and Roanoke counties.
Virginia House approves sweeping package of police reforms
The Virginia House of Delegates approved a sweeping package of police reform bills Friday that Democrats said would make it easier to reign in officers who abuse their authority but Republicans said would hamstring police and make their jobs more dangerous. Banning every use of a no-knock warrant will end in more dead police and more dead suspects, said House Republican Leader Todd Gilbert. The House narrowly rejected a bill aimed at making it easier to sue police officers for misconduct. Among the legislation approved by the House are bills that would:-Ban sexual relations between officers and people they arrest. -Mandate the duty of a police officer to report the misconduct of another officer.
Virginia House passes bill to gradually increase minimum wage to $15/hour
RICHMOND, Va. โ An increase to the minimum wage in Virginia is looking more and more likely. The Virginia House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday that would raise minimum wage nearly $2 this year to $10 per hour. Republicans representing our area echo small business ownersโ concerns that a change in minimum wage could hurt them. Also on Tuesday, the Senate passed a version of this bill in which the minimum wage growth rate would vary by region, depending on median income. Changes to this bill have minimum wage increasing more quickly than when lawmakers first proposed it.
Virginia House passes bill capping insulin insurance co-pays at $30
RICHMOND, Va. โ Those living with diabetes may soon be able to pay less for needed insulin if a Virginia bill become a law. On Monday, House Bill 66, which would limit the insurance copay for insulin at $30 for a 30-day supply, passed in the Virginia House of Delegates. He represents part of Prince William County, as well as all of the city of Manassas.
