In what proved to be a back and forth affair between the clash of the Spartans, Broad Run outlasted Salem for a 28-24 victory. They scored a touchdown with 30 seconds left in the game to secure a spot in the VHSL Class 4 State Championship game next weekend.

Salem athletics community joins the โLet Them Playโ movement in area
SALEM, Va. โ Members of the Salem athletic community met outside the South Salem Elementary School on Tuesday ahead of the districtโs school board meeting. Salem is making their voices heard for the โLet Them Playโ movement. Inspired by its surrounding communities who have made leeway in getting the boardโs to reverse their decision for athletic competition, the Spartans did the same. The school board did not vote on whether or not to allow competition for its school sports.

Salem Spartans trio commits to Louisiana-Monroe football program
ROANOKE, Va. They say good things come in 3s, no exception when it comes to high school athletes. Earlier in the week, Brooke Leonard brought us the story of three Lord Botetourt senior football players committing to play at Appalachian State University. Saturday, the Salem Spartans had a trio of talented football players that also decided to suit up together on the college gridiron. Zavione Wood, Jorden McDonald and Jayden McDonald all announced that they will play football at the University of Louisiana Monroe. Wood rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and over 10 touchdowns in 2019, while also playing effective defense at middle linebacker for the Spartans.
Spartans staying ready despite uncertain fall
Salem, Va. like many other teams across the state...its been a long 3 months for the salem spartans. despite winning the past 10 matchups...theres a new wrinkle in an old rivalry with pulaski county...with mark dixon now at the helm in dublin. Coach Dixon is a heck of a football coach, I know that. Longtime Salem football fans and Pulaski fans can remember. They remember 1984-85, Salem went 9-1 and didnt make the playoffs and the only loss was to Pulaski and vice versa.

A changing of the guard is in the works at Pulaski County as coach Stephen James has resigned his post as the Cougars head football coach after six seasons. The team went 43-20 with five playoff berths during James tenure. In Salem Berlyn Seitz is the new varsity head girls basketball coach. She comes to the Spartans from Franklin County where she served as a varsity assistant. The Bridgewater College grad has also been a varsity assistant at Liberty High School in Bedford.

SALEM, Va.- - When you're doing things right, people notice. In southwest Virginia, everyone knows who the Salem Spartans are. "The way he makes us work hard and makes us great every day. After an unconventional finish in 2018 in the first round of the playoffs, the Spartans are ready to get back to their standard. "Last year, we got a little bit lazy and sloppy, and we're going to be ready this year."
