RALEIGH, NC – Center Elizabeth Kitley scored 30 points for the second time this season, and Aisha Sheppard added 24 but the Hokies were unable to hang on to a fourth quarter lead Sunday afternoon, ultimately falling 89-87 to the second-ranked NC State Wolfpack. The loss drops the Hokies to 7-7 (2-7) ahead of a second clash with the Wolfpack this Thursday at Cassell Coliseum. The Wolfpack fought back in the second quarter and went into the locker room holding a 47-41 advantage at the half thanks to a 10-3 run in the closing minutes. King finished with 12 points, Georgia Amoore added eight points and seven assists and Azana Baines scored seven points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Second-half run pushes Wake Forest past Virginia Tech women
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Elizabeth Kitley recorded here eighth double-double of the season (18 points and 21 rebounds) on Sunday afternoon. But the Demon Deacons fought back for the 67-64, another disappointing loss for the Hokies. Wake Forest was led by Gina Conti who scored 18 points and Ivana Raca and Christina Morra who each tallied 17 points. It was a 14-2 run in the second half that wiped away the Hokies’ 10 point lead. The Hokies are scheduled to be back at Cassell Coliseum on Thursday to host Notre Dame--their second meeting of the season with the Fighting Irish.

ATLANTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech’s starting five- Aisha Sheppard, Cayla King, Azana Baines, Asiah Jones and Elizabeth Kitley- combined for 44 points on Sunday but turnovers and mistakes kept the Hokies from snapping a 3-game losing streak. Aisha Sheppard tried to set the tone early with 12 first half points, finishing with 20. “I thought we left opportunities on the table where we didn’t capitalize,” said head coach Kenny Brooks. “We’re not playing together right now and we’re not trusting each other enough and it’s showing. It’s showing at the worst time in the game.”“Minimize the mistakes that we make throughout the game because they’re becoming repetitive because we’re seeing it in multiple different films, multiple different games it’s the same mistakes,” said Hokies guard Aisha Sheppard.

All-ACC performers Aisha Sheppard (19 points) and Elizabeth Kitley (30 points) led the way for the program’s 59th consecutive victory over non-conference opposition on Carilion Clinic Court. •Kenny Brooks’ record moves to 90-49 at Virginia Tech and 427-171 in his career. •The win was the Hokies’ 59th straight against non-conference opposition inside Cassell. •The bench accounted for 15 points against the Mountaineers, the best output of the young season for that group. •The 50 first half points represent the most Tech has scored in a half this season.
