BEDFORD, Va. – Police are asking you to be mindful of your grass clippings, especially along roadways. Grass clippings in the street often end up in the storm drains and sewers and are a hazard to both motorcycles and bicycles. “Those grass clippings can be very slippery, and that could cause a motorcyclist to lose control of the bike and fall. So, we want to make sure folks understand to try and blow those clippings back into their yards, bag them, do whatever they can rather than just blow them into the road,” said Lieutenant Robert Kimbrel of the Bedford Police Department. He said cyclists should wear full, protective gear at all times.
Bedford continues ‘Shop with a Cop’ event with COVID-19 guidelines
BEDFORD, Va. – Dashing through the aisles of Walmart, Emmanuel Brown had endless possibilities of toys at his fingertips. The eight-year-old participated in Bedford’s ‘Shop with a Cop’ event Monday. Instead of a large group on one day, 37 children are broken up into smaller groups over the course of a week. Police Chief Todd Foreman says during the pandemic, they’re adjusting to strengthen the bond with the community. And to be a child and wake up Christmas morning with nothing under the tree – that would be bad,” Wood said.
Bedford woman arrested for stabbing a man to death, police say
BEDFORD, Va. – A woman is facing a second-degree murder charge after police say she stabbed a man to death on Wednesday morning. According to the Bedford Police Department, officers responded to 977 Salem Turnpike around 1 a.m. on Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old George Turner of Bedford outside of his home with a stab wound to the chest. Officers say they started CPR until he was taken to Bedford Memorial Hospital, where he later died. She has been charged with second-degree murder.
How the Bedford Police Department says you could be oversharing through bumper stickers
BEDFORD, VA. – A local police department is taking time to remind people while identity thieves may be staying indoors, they haven't given up trying to scam you. The Bedford Police Department is warning people across the area that cute bumper stickers could be just like leaving your keys on the doorstep. Bedford Chief Todd Foreman is in the classroom re-certifying as a crime prevention specialist. The department shared an infographic on social media pointing out the fact that your information is the currency of thieves. Just having bumper stickers on your car doesn’t guarantee you’ll fall victim.
Two Bedford police officer test positive for the coronavirus
BEDFORD, Va. The Bedford Police Department announced Thursday that two of its officers tested positive for the coronavirus. The first case was reported on Tuesday and that officer has not worked in over a week. The second officer hadnt worked in four days from when the positive test was reported, according to the police department. The department is now working with the Virginia Department of Health, the County Emergency Management and the Bedford County Sheriffs Office to protect the officers and the citizens of Bedford. To ensure there was no spread, VDH tested every employee of the Bedford Police Department for COVID-19.
Week five of Food for Frontline kicks off with donation to Bedford Police Department
BEDFORD, Va. – Food for Frontline is moving into week five of feeding those who have worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Monday, the Bedford Police Department received lunch from a local bakery thanks to donations from 10 News viewers. The owner said faithful customers and Monday’s Food for Frontline order has helped them continue. It’s been really rough, really rough,” said Ginger Williams, owner of My Way Bakery. The Bedford Police Department was grateful that the community wanted to say thank you.
