Daleville, Va. – When last we saw Lord Botetourt’s football team, they were battling Hopewell in the Class 3 state title game at Liberty University. It’s not a traditional opponent for the Cavaliers, but coach Harless says he was happy to get the matchup. “Great football program, great tradition, just neat having them come to Daleville and play,” Harless says. AdWhen last we saw GW Danville they were falling in the Class 4 region semifinals to Salem by a 48-21 count. The Eagles and Cavaliers are set to kick off at 1 p.m. in Daleville on Saturday.

VHSL Class 3 Wrestling Championships

SALEM, Va. – Sunday offered another great day of action on the wrestling mats in Salem with Class 3 schools vying for State Title gold. In semifinals action, JB Dragovich of Hidden Valley battled hard against Phoenix Alya of Skyline but would lose by pin fall at 2:14. In wrestlebacks, Dragovich would go on to place third in the 120 weight class. Preston would finish as runner-up after falling to Travis Ragland of New Kent by major decision. Tingler would place 6th in the 138 weight class.

What’s News Today: Vaccine clinic, sports rescheduled

The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health District’s vaccine clinic at the Berglund Center is canceled today. If you had an appointment for today, you are being rescheduled for tomorrow. Class 1 is rescheduled for Saturday, Class 3 Sunday and Class 2 Monday. The Class 1 and 2 swim championship, scheduled to take place today at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, are also being postponed. the board advises City Council and the City Manager on matters pertaining to the libraries.

Bedford, Va./Riner, Va. – Liberty High School softball was ready for the 2020 season after winning the Class 3 state title a year ago. “Really excited about what we had, but at the same time you’re constantly thinking about who youre going to play and what not,” Liberty head softball coach Mike Thompson said. The Auburn star shortstop committed to play softball at Radford, and was ready for her final season, hoping to defend Auburn’s Class 1 title. Coaches have been told to treat this new time as a dead period, which means limited contact with the players pertaining to softball. And even though Boyd is heading off to play at the next level, there’s no replacement for a high school senior season.

DALEVILLE, Va. – Tuesday night in the Class 3 state semi-finals, the Lord Botetourt girls beat Booker T. Washington to head to the state championship for the second time in three years. “As soon as we saw the tweet we were like, okay, our season is over,” senior Kenleigh Gunter said. “I was shocked I would never play basketball again. Just knowing that everyone had a good season and we made it that far, that’s what really made it happy.”“We worked hard, they worked hard, we both worked hard to get there all season,” junior Briana Myers said. It is bigger than basketball, basketball isn’t the most important thing right now.”But one thing is for sure, the legacy the class of 2020 has left behind at Lord Botetourt is undeniable.

ROANOKE, Va. – For the second time in three years the Vikings of Northside will play for the VHSL Class 3 title. And after surviving another VHSL gauntlet, Coach Bill Pope says his team is used to the "go big or go home" mentality. You know that we have to come out and play or it ends, that's how it works, so. The 27-1 Vikings will face Phoebus Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. Northside is led by 6-7 James Madision signee Julien Wooden, who scored 36 points in the Vikings' state semifinal win over Cave Spring.

DALEVILLE, Va. – Lord Botetourt will play for its second consecutive Class 3 volleyball state championship after edging rival Hidden Valley 3-2. The Cavs handled Hidden Valley twice before this game, once in the regular season and again in the region finals. Hidden Valley played a great game tonight and I thought we just stepped it up there in the end a were able to finish it in game five," Cavaliers head coach Julie Connor said. Lord Botetourt will take on Tabb in the Class 3 Final Friday night in Salem at 8 p.m. In Class 2, Radford blanked Union 3-0 to advance to the state finals vs. Poquoson Friday at 6 p.m. in Salem.

Coach Brad Bradley's squad returns confident in building more success in 2018, led by senior quarterback Jabari Blake. Heritage averaged 48 points a season ago and the defense served up two shutouts. We play each play for each other," said Blake. Heritage opens the season Aug. 24 at home against William Fleming.
