George Washington High School will be having a virtual learning day Tuesday as Danville Police and Virginia State Police continue to investigate a threat the school received Monday, according to the Danville Police Department.
Health officials say a rabid fox bit at least two individuals in Danville
The Pittsylvania-Danville Health District says at least two individuals were bitten by a fox that tested positive for rabies. A public notice has been sent out for residents in the area of Mount Cross Road and Tyler Avenue in Danville.
Danville Police complete HEART walk to check up on community after Wednesday’s deadly shooting
DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police continue to search for the 19-year-old they consider “armed and dangerous” in connection to Wednesday’s deadly shooting that took the life of 21-year-old Jaylan Fitzgerald. Police were in the area where it happened, not to find more information on their investigation, but to check up on the community. Officers completed their HEART walk on Cabell Street, where Wednesday’s homicide happened, to check up on the people in the neighborhood Thursday afternoon. The goal is to show that police care about the community and to make sure everyone is coping and authorities typically do this after a crime happens in the neighborhood. AdThis is the third homicide on Cabell Street in the past four years as well as the second homicide for Danville in 2021.

86-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s found safe in Danville

Averett University no longer on lockdown after receiving threatening email
DANVILLE, Va. – UPDATEAverett University is no longer on lockdown, but police will remain on campus out of an abundance of caution. ORIGINAL STORYDanville Police are assisting in security at Averett University after the campus went on lockdown due to a threatening email. Police said the email made a general threat to the university. Danville authorities provided security both on the Main Campus and North Campus while investigators began tracking down the source of the message. According to police, there’s no indication this was a legitimate threat, but the university will remain on lockdown until further notice.

13-year-old girl found safe after being reported missing out of Danville

Man arrested, charged with killing his female cab driver in Danville

Police searching for Danville man in connection to November shooting
DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police are looking for a 25-year-old man in connection to a shooting that happened on Nov. 14. Kaos Green, of Danville, is wanted and charged with aggravated assault and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection to the shooting, according to authorities. According to authorities, a 26-year-old man was shot in his torso and suffered serious injuries before bystanders took him to the hospital where he was stabilized then later transported to UNC Medical Center. Danville police arrest one person in connection to aggravated assault in 15-passenger van
DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police have arrested one person for aggravated assault Tuesday afternoon. At about 1:30 p.m., police said they responded to a disturbance at Henry Street and North Main Street where they learned there was an argument between two passengers who were traveling in a 15-passenger van. The offender left the scene on foot and was apprehended shortly after in the 100 block of East Thomas Street. Police said they want to emphasize this incident didn’t involve the voting precinct or voters at the Salvation Army on Henry Street. According to authorities, the victim and suspect know each other and the assault was not related to any Election Day activities.

Danville police searching for driver who crashed car into living room
Va. – Danville Police are investigating an early morning hit and run after they said a driver crashed an SUV into a house. A 911 call just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday led emergency personnel to the 400 block of Gay Street. That’s where crews located a gold Ford Escape in the living room of a vacant house. Danville police looking into how to improve officer safety during funeral processions
DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Police Department is looking into how to improve officer safety during funeral processions. As 10 News has reported, Danville police officer Andrew Eanes was directing traffic for a funeral procession on North Main Street Monday when the hearse in the funeral procession hit him as he got out of his SUV. “The officers will step outside their vehicle, come to attention, as a sign of respect after blocking traffic, of course with lights and emergency equipment on. In this case, we have a safety committee and they will review this incident and offer any potential recommendations for the future," Danville Police Department Lt. Richard Chivvis said. The driver of the hearse has been charged with failure to maintain lane.

Averett University lifts lockdown after reported suspicious person on campus
DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University was put on lockdown late Saturday evening. The university and Danville Police have responded and said there was no immediate threat during the initial response. Officials conducted a follow-up investigation based on information known to the university. Out of precaution, Danville police conducted an additional follow-up Sunday, resulting in the conclusion of the investigation Sunday afternoon. According to Danville police, the rumors on social media of shots being fired or related posts were also false.

Danville teen shot, in stable condition
DANVILLE, VA – Danville Police are investigating after a teen was shot Saturday. Police went to a car crash near the north side of Union Street Bridge and found a teen boy in the car with a non life threatening gunshot wound. He was taken the remainder of the way by ambulance. The teen is in stable condition. Police say the incident is thought to have taken place in the Arnett Blvd.
