Man dead after he lost control of motorcycle, slid into police car in Giles County
GILES COUNTY, Va. โ A 28-year-old is dead after authorities say he lost control of his motorcycle and slid into the side of a police car on Friday. As Acord was approaching the intersection of US-460 and 3rd Street, police say he swerved left to get around traffic stopped in the westbound lanes and lost control. The motorcycle then rolled onto its side and slid into a Narrows police car that was stopped in the road, according to police. Police say Acord was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene. According to Virginia State Police, the crash remains under investigation.
Police search for missing woman out of Narrows
NARROWS, Va. โ The Narrows Police Department has issued a missing person alert for Anita Louise Bailey Hoston. Police say Hoston was last seen on July 11 at 5:30 a.m. Authorities say she was last seen at her residence on High School Hill. If anyone has any information, the Narrows Police Department.
Narrows moves ahead with 4th of July fireworks

Bradley Sutphin ready to lead Narrows girls basketball program
NARROWS, Va. The Narrows girls basketball team is ready to turn the page and start fresh with a new coach. Former Pulaski girls basketball head coach Bradley Sutphin has been named the new head coach for the Green Wave. Sutphin lead the Cougars to a Class 4 state runner-up finish in 2019, and this season they won the region 4D title and went 21-7. A lot of the girls over here are excited as much as Ive talked to them, Sutphin said. Its been a smooth transition but the hardest thing I ever had to do was telling the girls over at Pulaski.
Community surprises Giles County teen with parade before surgery
GILES COUNTY, Va. โ A New River Valley community came together to show a young girl she is loved, and to wish her well on an important day. In a video posted to Facebook, you can see her mom Nikki Horton bringing Alexius to the front yard to see the surprise. The surprise parade was a warm sendoff of good wishes before surgery. In the fall, Giles High School teamed up with cross town rival Narrows High School to honor the JV cheerleader at their football game, raising thousands of dollars for her medical expenses. Giles and Narrows players held fundraisers and collected donations in helmets before the game.
Backpacking with Brooke: Rice Fields Hike
NARROWS, Va. โ The Rice Fields hike is located near Narrows and is a steady five mile out and back hike with stunning views from the top. Youโll park just off of Pocahontas Road on a gravel pull-off, then backtrack a few paces down to the beginning of the Appalachian Trail. This hike is marked with white blazes, and follows the AT 2.5 miles around the mountain. The beginning of the hike traverses back and forth as you steadily ascend. After youโre done basking in the sun and enjoying the view, head back down the way you came.

Rival football teams raising money for JV cheerleader diagnosed with cancer
NARROWS, Va. - Giles and Narrows collected donations for Alexius, the Narrows cheerleader battling cancer, and raised $9,628.74. In one football community in the New River Valley, two rival teams are teaming up to help a girl in need. Giles even painted a yellow ribbon on the school's football field. Giles and Narrows are raising money for Alexius' medical bills, holding fundraisers and collecting donations in helmets before the game. "Football is just a game," said Ty Lowery, a Giles High School varsity football captain.
Rival communities rally around 14-year-old diagnosed with cancer
NARROWS, Va. - A 14-year-old girl's devastating diagnosis is bringing two rival communities together. Alexius Dawson is a freshman and a JV cheerleader at Narrows High School. Last week, she found out she has osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. This Friday night, during Narrows High School's football game against Giles High School, both teams will set out helmets to collect donations. Tasty Tuesday: Anna's Restaurant
NARROWS, Va. - Anna's Restaurant has long been a staple of Giles County, serving up comfort food for more than three decades. Manager Cody Hollie almost doesn't know a life without this restaurant in his hometown. Hollie tells 10 News, "A lot of our recipes are the same as they've been the past 30 years." Cody's parents, Tom and Linda Hollie, recently took over at Anna's and know how special a place this is. Years after that, Brian Bowles, now the principal at Narrows High School, remembers a fond high school experience of his own.
Authorities investigating tractor-trailer fire in Giles County
NARROWS, Va. - Authorities are currently investigating a tractor-trailer fire in Giles County, according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies say the fire is at the intersection of US-460 and VA-61 in Narrows. US-460 West is shut down in the area. RINER, Va. โ The Auburn Eagles finished 5-5 in 2018 but made it to the playoffs for the second year in a row. It was Narrows who ended their season with a tough 18-7 decision. Man arrested for reportedly running away from authorities after driving wrong way on Rt. 460
NARROWS, Va. - UPDATEA man is in custody after he ran away from authorities during a traffic stop, according to the Giles County Sheriff's Office. Terry Hungate, 23, of Blacksburg, is facing charges in Giles County for reckless driving as well as outstanding charges in Montgomery County for misdemeanor destruction of property and misdemeanor assault. Deputies say they received a complaint Wednesday of someone driving the wrong way down Rt. ORIGINAL STORYAuthorities are searching for a man after a traffic stop led to a police chase on foot. According to the Giles County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened in Narrows late Wednesday night.
