Governor Glenn Youngkin received a warm welcome at Virginia Military Institute during its last home basketball game before winter furlough.
The hearings come as Democrats, who control the legislature, have raised concerns about what they see as interference in university autonomy from outgoing Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office and the White House.

Xavier Gaillardetz had an 80-yard punt return touchdown less than two minutes into the game, Jake McNamara threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns and East Tennessee State routed VMI 45-10 on Saturday. The Buccaneers (3-4, 1-2 Southern Conference) scored the first 31 points, with Jeremiah Harrison and Ephraim Floyd each catching scores and Devontae Houston scoring on the ground. Houston led with 76 yards rushing on 12 carries, and Jason Albritton added 56 yards and a rushing score. The Bucs ran for 284 yards to VMI’s 13, and outgained the Keydets 509-82. Jackson Byrd scored his first career rushing touchdown in the final minute. The Keydets (1-5, 0-2) have lost four straight games, with their lone win coming against Division III Ferrum College.
Richmond secures a 38-14 victory over VMI on Saturday night. Jamaal Brown rushes for a career-high 153 yards, while Andrew King adds 100 yards on the ground. Isaiah Dawson scores two touchdowns for Richmond. The game faces a weather delay due to lightning with 5:48 left in the first quarter. VMI ties the game at 14 with a touchdown pass to Owen Sweeney, who scores both of their touchdowns. Richmond quarterback Kyle Wickersham throws for 166 yards and a touchdown. Richmond's Lee Bruner IV records his first collegiate interception in the second quarter.
Backup quarterback Braxton Woodson ran for 180 yards, including 74- and 68-yard touchdowns, to highlight Navy’s season-opening 52-7 rout of VMI. Woodson subbed for starter Blake Horvath, who completed 6 of 7 passes for 66 yards before sitting down. Horvath threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Eli Heidenreich. It was Heidenreich’s 11th career touchdown reception at Navy, moving him two behind academy record-holders Rob Taylor and Phil McConkey. Woodson completed 3 of 7 passes for 26 yards, but it was his two long touchdown runs in the second half that were the highlights of the day. Navy had 464 yards rushing and 556 yards of total offense. On defense, the Midshipmen allowed only 212 total yards and nine first downs.
