Bedford County Sheriff’s Office distributes Thanksgiving meals to families in need

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office was out on patrol ahead of Thanksgiving. They weren’t fighting crime, but delivering meals to families in need. Sheriff Mike Miller said they want to help families facing hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s time for us to return thanks. We’ve been very blessed, and now it’s our time to return the thanks to someone else.”The Sheriff’s Office worked with local schools and social services to identify the meal recipients.

Police working to prevent gang activity, identify nearly 700 members in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Lynchburg is also working to fight gang activity, numbers are showing gang participation is on the rise. Around this time last year we reported there were 630 identified gang members in Lynchburg. Lynchburg police tell 10 News as of right now they know of nearly 700 gang members. We had kids that used to be involved with gang activity thats no longer a part of that. 10 News contacted Bedford County Sheriff's Office, who couldnt share numbers with us, but said they aren't seeing the same problem as Roanoke or Lynchburg, but they have identified gang members who that live in the community.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. - UPDATEAuthorities say they have arrested Jeffrey Todd Lynch. The Bedford County Sheriff's Office has identified the man it says broke into a Moneta convenience store early Monday morning. Lynch arrived in a small dark blue SUV, broke into the store and stole merchandise, according to the Sheriff's Office.

'Everybody goes home': Bedford County Sheriff's Office peacefully solves standoff situation

BEDFORD, Va. - A tense, hostile situation ended peacefully Monday night, thanks to the work of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. "Every day we sign on the radio, our goal is to bring every situation to a successful conclusion," said Capt. Mike Miller at the Sheriff's Office. At one point, Miller says Saunders fired a shotgun in the direction of the deputies. The Sheriff's Office says criminal charges are pending against him.

Missing 87-year-old Bedford woman with dementia found safe

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. - Rose has been found and she is being taken back home, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. ORIGINAL STORYAuthorities are searching for an 87-year-old Bedford woman with dementia. According to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, her son told deputies that his mother, Rose Sorenson, was last seen around 7 p.m. Tuesday. She is believed to be wearing black and gray sweatpants and the same colored shoes. The Sheriff's Office is asking that people do not assist with the search at this time, due to the fact that there are K-9s searching the area.

Two missing teens found after extensive, week-long search in Campbell County and beyond

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. - After more than a week-long, extensive search, two Campbell County teens were found safe. The Sheriff's Office thanked the Bedford County Sheriff's Office and EMS personnel for their role in locating the 15-year-olds, but did not mention where the teens were found. Jacob Morris and Jasmyn Gordan were reported as runaways/missing persons on Sept. 17 by their families, according to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office. Local woman creates petition after Staunton River High School threat deemed unsubstantiated

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va - Brandy Gibson has a child at Staunton River High School. "I love this school, I went to this school, but I think, maybe, they need to let us know that everything is fine," Gibson said. Hours after the Bedford County Sheriff's Office found no merit and would not charge a high school student for making an alleged threat online Monday night, Gibson created an online petition calling for school leaders to help students. School leaders tell 10 News 130 students were absent Wednesday; that's after almost 200 kids didn't show up on Tuesday. Gibson said, she wants her petition and the recent situation to spark a conversation with parents and school leaders.

No charges will be filed after threat at Staunton River High School deemed unsubstantiated

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. - The Bedford County Sheriff's Office says it will not charge anyone after investigating threats at Staunton River High School. Just one week into the new school year a possible threat on social media left students concerned. UPDATEAuthorities say they have identified the person they believe made the possible threat at Staunton River High School. According to deputies, the person is currently being interviewed at the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. Police looking for suspects involved in two armed robberies that appear to be related

LYNCHBURG, Va. - UPDATELynchburg police say they're investigating two armed robberies this month at the Sunrise Food Mart that appear to be related. The first robbery happened on the evening of Aug. 4, when a man entered the store located at 1201 Campbell Ave. The suspect's face was concealed. ORIGINAL STORYLynchburg police are looking for two men they say robbed the Sunrise Food Mart at knifepoint Saturday night. Officers say one man with his face concealed entered the store a little before 10:30 p.m., pulled out a knife and stole some money.
