Police say deadly Martinsville shooting started inside the restaurant

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – On Thursday, police provided new information about a deadly shooting that happened at a Martinsville restaurant earlier this month. It was a fight inside the restaurant that led to shots being fired inside El Norteño on Church Street on Feb. 5., police said during a bond hearing for Rosario Eggleston. The 20-year-old man then continued shooting outside of the restaurant which then led to Keilo Martin, 23, and Shavon Reid, 33, being shot and killed and two others getting hurt, according to police. Eggleston currently faces several felony charges of aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and willful discharge of a firearm in a public place resulting in death. Chef T used to run a restaurant in St. Paul called Ina + Forbes Restaurant, which she told WCYB was a tribute to her grandmother. Unfortunately, it closed permanently due to COVID-19.

Mac and Bob’s reopens less than a month after restaurant fire

SALEM, Va. – A local favorite is back open after shutting down because of a fire inside the restaurant. Mac and Bob’s in Salem reopened weeks after an electrical fire burned part of the building. An employee saw the smoke early in the morning and the fire department said if it had happened overnight, there may have been no restaurant left. It only took 22 days to reopen after the fire and co-owner Bob Rotanz said that’s all thanks to the community. Rotanz said it’s been a rough few years from their lawsuit to the coronavirus pandemic, but they wouldn’t be here without the community’s constant support.

Danville seafood restaurant closes after 32 years

DANVILLE, Va. – A popular Danville restaurant is closing its doors after over four decades in the restaurant business. Mayflower Seafood Restaurant officials announced Saturday they are closing the business to retire and make memories with their growing family. This announcement comes after the restaurant has spent 32 years in Danville and 45 years in the restaurant business. KFC putting ‘Finger Lickin’ Good’ slogan on pause because of coronavirus

ROANOKE, Va. – Licking one’s fingers while eating isn’t the most hygienic advice right now and the fast-food restaurant that’s lived by that motto for 64 years agrees. Starting Monday, KFC suspended its iconic slogan because it “doesn’t quite fit the current environment,” according to the restaurant officials. KFC’s worldwide advertising will not include this language until further notice. Don’t worry, chicken lovers. The restaurant said the slogan will not be gone forever but it will come back “when the time is right.”A new slogan has not yet been announced.

Customer leaves restaurant staff $1,000 tip to thank them for working through the pandemic

CNN – The staff at a New Jersey restaurant that has been struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic were moved to tears after a regular customer left them a $1,000 tip. Arnold Teixeira, owner of The Starving Artist in Ocean Grove, told CNN the customer has been a regular since 2001. The note left with the $1,000 tip. It wouldn't be a good summer without the Starving Artist," the tipper added. At the end of the note, the customer asked that the $1,000 tip be divided amongst the entire staff.

Restaurants reopen dining rooms as Virginia enters Phase 2

Ralph Northam, many restaurants have reopened their dining rooms. Under Phase Two of reopening, restaurants’ dining rooms are limited to 50% capacity. On Friday at 4:30 p.m., the Nawab Indian Cuisine’s dining room opened. A few doors down at Benny Marconi’s, leadership is still deciding whether or not to open its dining room. Fontanarosa said he expects the dining room to open within the next two weeks.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A group of protesters showed up to a Lynchburg restaurant on Sunday. Later, however, the protesters used the opportunity to protest the police treatment of African Americans. People gathered outside Fifth and Federal Station after the restaurant responded to a tweet by Liberty University President Jerry Falwell. Local restaurants taking steps to stop the spread of coronavirus

ROANOKE, Va. – Amid concerns over the coronavirus, some local restaurants are wondering if people may shy away from going out to eat and they’re taking extra steps to keep everything clean. 10 News checked in with restaurants all across the region, including some in Roanoke, the New River Valley, Lynchburg and in Southside. Evie’s Bistro and Bakery in Roanoke showed 10 News how its workers are adding to their cleaning regimen to do their part to prevent the virus from spreading. Salem staple Mac and Bob’s to be featured on the Today Show
