TF40 football camp teaching fundamentals for another summer
It’s hard to believe that football is just around the corner, but Mark Harrison’s fastest 40 crew is getting prepared. Around 50 campers were polishing their skills at Troutville Park this week. Harrison said for the younger group, it’s all about learning the fundamentals from good footwork to proper hand placement, and of course, having fun.
Botetourt County crews respond to call for water rescue in flooded road
TROUTVILLE, Va. – Crews responded to a call for a water rescue in Botetourt County on Wednesday night as heavy rain drenched the area. The initial report was of a person stuck in a car in a flooded road. It happened in Troutville in the 800 block of Parsons Road near Craighead Drive, according to Botetourt County Fire & EMS. Authorities said the water receded quickly and the driver was able to get out of the car safely.
State Superintendent of Education tours Botetourt County schools
TROUTVILLE, Va. – After a quick temperature scan, State Superintendent Dr. James Lane and his team were off to tour Greenfield Elementary School in Botetourt County on Monday. They popped into classrooms to take a look at how the school is upholding to state and CDC guidelines. As coronavirus cases continue to rise around the state, the school is noticing an uptick in absences. Botetourt County School Superintendent Jonathan Russ said he aims to keep children in school while maintaining a balance of social distance learning and interactivity. But first, he will visit nine more school districts in southwest Virginia over the next few days.
Security company works with local churches to keep congregations safe
TROUTVILLE, Va. – Safety is once again a top concern in places of worship after a deadly shooting Sunday at a church in Texas. Investigators are still working to figure out why a gunman opened fire, killing two people at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas. Executive Security Concepts, which is based in Roanoke, is helping places of worship keep their congregations safe. The company recently contracted with two local churches to provide armed security and safety team consulting. Executive Security Concepts has been providing safety and security globally since 2005.
Man to serve 25 years for trying to kill police during standoff in Botetourt County
BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. - A man who pleaded guilty to trying to kill law enforcement officers last year in Botetourt County will spend the next 25 years in prison. Chad Montgomery, 40, of Covington, shot at police during a standoff in Troutville last September. The standoff lasted for several hours until officers used tear gas to get him out. Last week, Montgomery pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted capital murder. According to Botetourt County Commonwealths Attorney John Alexander, the judge originally sentenced Montgomery to two life sentences plus 30 years but suspended the sentence after 25 years.

Hundreds celebrate Camden's 10th birthday balloon bash

Camden Eubanks turned 10 Monday and all he wanted for his birthday was a water balloon fight. When his family put an invitation on Facebook the post went viral and resulted in a birthday bash blow-out. Camden had a smile on his face the whole time," said Traci Eubanks, Camden's mom. One father drove from northern Virginia with his two sons to celebrate Camden's birthday.
