Nope, every dog year isnt equal to 7 human years, researchers now say
CNN How do you compare a dog's age to that of a person? A popular method says you should multiply the dog's age by 7 to compute how old Fido is in "human years." And that's because the scientists behind a new study say dogs and humans don't age at the same rate. Based on the study, a one-year-old dog compares to a 30-year-old human, a four-year-old dog to a 52-year-old human. A graphic in the study makes the age comparisons intuitive and provides some helpful context for dog owners, including the scientists themselves.

Pet owners who fail to walk dogs face $2,700 fine
Justin Sullivan/Getty Images(CNN) - Dog owners could be fined up to $2,700 (AU$4,000) if they don't walk their pets at least once a day under new legislation recognizing animals as sentient beings in the Australian Capital Territory. The Animal Welfare Legislation Amendment Bill, which became law on Thursday, imposes a range of strict penalties in a bid to improve animal welfare. Owners can face heavy on-the-spot fines if they fail to provide basics like shelter, food and water. People who confine dogs for 24 hours must also allow them to move freely for the next two hours or face prosecution. "Modern animal welfare is about considering how an animal is coping both mentally and physically with the conditions in which it lives," ACT City Service Minister Chris Steel, who secured the bill, said in a media release.

Study: Dogs help owners maintain heart health
Pixabay(CNN) - Dog's aren't just our best friends, they're also good for our health, new research suggests. The latest was this year, in 2019, when researchers again looked at about 2,000 people with no history of heart disease. The researchers compared the cardiovascular health scores of pet owners with those of petless people. But then they compared dog owners with everyone else and found that no matter their age, sex or education level, they benefited the most in terms of cardiovascular health. The study included many factors that determined the health of the heart and arteries, like showing that dog-owners tend to also have a healthier diet than other pet-owners -- thus contributing to a better cardiovascular health.
