Police search for 5 shooters in high school football ambush
Authorities have publicly identified the 14-year-old killed in a shooting that also wounded four other teens as they walked away from a Philadelphia high school athletic field after a football scrimmage, saying they believe he was not the intended target of the shooting.
Danville police investigates early morning homicide
Danville police said at approximately 3:48 Saturday morning, investigators went to the 700 block of Stokes Street for calls of a person being shot. Officers found 19-year-old Danville native Ja’Quise De’Juan Beard on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Beard was treated at the scene and taken to SOVAH Danville Emergency Room where he was later died.
Police speak to Scottish leader Sturgeon over mask slip-up
Police said Monday that they spoke to Scotland’s leader to reminder her about sticking to coronavirus mask rules after she was filmed without a face covering indoors, Police Scotland said officers reminded First Minister Nicola Sturgeon of the “importance of wearing a face covering when there is a legal requirement to do so.”.

Law enforcement from across the Commonwealth were in Lynchburg to learn a new philosophy from Justice 3D Consulting. Mark Mackizer, co-owner and retired FBI special agent, said the training goes against traditional modules of interviewing suspects.
Police find missing 17-year-old Roanoke County girl
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Madison McDaniel and her boyfriend were found Thursday night and they are safe, according to the Roanoke County Police Department. Roanoke County Police are asking for your help in locating a missing teen girl. Authorities said 17-year-old Madison McDaniel has been missing since Friday, Feb. 19. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, McDaniel was last seen with her boyfriend, Landen Nelson, and they may be headed to Ohio. Middle school resource officer named Salem’s 2020 Officer of the Year
SALEM, Va. – If you’re walking the halls of Andrew Lewis Middle School, you’ll find a friendly face: Officer David Goodman. He’s been a school resource officer there for the past three years, following in his dad’s footsteps who also worked for the Salem Police Department. But Goodman’s making a name for himself as Salem’s 2020 Officer of the Year. Principal Jamie Garst said Goodman redefines what school resource officers should be. “We can teach them to be good officers, we can’t teach them to be good people,” said Crawley.
Danville police arrest man they say shot an 18-year-old early Thursday morning
DANVILLE, Va – Authorities arrested Deauntae Dawson on Thursday afternoon without incident, according to the Danville Police Department. ORIGINAL STORYDanville police are searching for the man they believe is responsible for shooting an 18-year-old early Thursday morning. The Danville Lifesaving Crew transported the victim, an 18-year-old Danville man in critical condition, to Sovah Health Danville where he was later taken to Duke University Hospital. Most recently, he was listed in serious, but stable condition, according to police. The Pittsylvania County man left the scene before officers arrived; however, police later found his vehicle abandoned near Kentuck Road and the Danville city limits.
Neighbors, students scared after two Radford shootings leave one hospitalized
RADFORD, Va. – Shots fired in Radford early Sunday morning left neighbors and students at Radford University feeling uneasy. Sunday morning, just after 1 a.m., Radford City police responded to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Madison Street. You know, just five or six ‘Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.’ You know, really loud,” recalled Lawson. Police believe the two shootings are connected but do not believe the public is in any danger. “This is a pretty unusual event for the city of Radford,” said Jenni Wilder, the city and police department’s public information officer.

Three arrested in Radford home invasion, robbery
Three people were arrested after police said they broke into a home earlier this week in Radford, according to police. Authorities said the incident happened in the 600 block of Calhoun Street on Jan. 12. Officers charged 19-year-old Jamari Melton of Radford, 22-year-old Tyeshawn Goodnight of Radford and 20-year-old Desean Anderson of Richmond with robbery, breaking and entering, larceny of a firearm and wearing a mask to hide identity. All three suspects are being held without bail at the New River Valley Regional Jail, according to police.
Many questions raised after lack of police response at US Capitol building
ROANOKE, Va – Several agencies are looking for suspects from the riots at the United States Capitol building on Wednesday. Rick Morrison spent 30 years working in law enforcement and now educates best practices in policing. While he wasn’t in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, he said it’s not likely that Capitol Police were uninformed on the scale of the event. Virginia Sen. Mark Warner said he was assured that law enforcement could handle the situation and the ultimate response was an embarrassment. Morrison said incriminating evidence over social media will likely lead to more arrests down the line.

Radford police get new e-ticket systems to help curb spread of coronavirus
RADFORD, Va. – The Radford Police Department now has new e-ticket systems to help protect them from the coronavirus. Police will receive 19 new e-ticket systems to limit face-to-face interaction during traffic stops. For about a year, the department had five e-ticket systems. But with an extra 19 systems, all 24 patrol officers will be equipped with the technology. Patrol officers will receive the new systems in about a week.
