Meet Brooklyn — this year’s first baby at Wythe County Community Hospital! The bundle of joy weighs five pounds and one ounce and is 18.5 inches. Her parents, Elizabeth and Dillon, welcomed her to the world on Jan. 1 at 6:42 p.m. at the Wythe County Community Hospital. “We are so excited to meet the newest member of our family!” said Elizabeth. “We are so grateful to the physicians, nurses and staff at Wythe County Community for taking such good care of us and making this experience special for our family.”
Woman arrested with 2 pounds of meth in Radford, police say
RADFORD, Va. – A Wytheville woman is in jail after being arrested for having large amounts of illegal drugs, according to police. On Tuesday at 9 a.m., authorities executed a warrant in the 1500 block of Tyler Avenue and found two pounds of suspected meth, along with 8 ounces of marijuana. Erin Wilson, 27, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute 100 grams or more of meth and possession with the intent to distribute more than one ounce, but less than 5 pounds of marijuana. Wilson is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
Federal fugitive out of North Carolina arrested in Wytheville
A fugitive was arrested in Wytheville early Friday morning, according to the Wytheville Police Department. Wytheville officers were notified by the United States Marshal Service that a federal fugitive was possibly in the area, and were asked to be on the lookout for the suspect and his car. Officers and detectives set up a perimeter around the motel and police said Tremain Kapp, 39 of Winston Salem, North Carolina, was taken into custody at about 4:30 a.m.Federal fugitive Tremain Kapp, 39, was arrested in Wytheville early Friday morning (Wytheville Police Department)Kapp was wanted by the United States Marshal Service for violation of federal probation on previous narcotics charges, according to the Police Department. 32-year-old man arrested over an hour away after police found stolen items in his vehicle from Wytheville
WYTHEVILLE, Va. – A North Carolina man was arrested in Wytheville in connection with a vehicle smash and grab at a hotel on Oct. 23, according to Wytheville Police. According to police, the Wythe County deputies pursued the vehicles into Carroll County where the Carroll County deputies took over the pursuit. The vehicle was finally stopped after crossing into Surry County, North Carolina. Authorities said they found items inside Clay’s vehicle that were taken from the Holiday Inn Express vehicle smash and grabs earlier. According to police, Clay was taken into custody and is facing charges in Surry County, Carroll County, Wythe County and Wytheville.
72-year-old man admits to distribution, possession of child pornography in Wythe County
WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – Wythe County Sherif’s Office arrested a man on two counts of child pornography charges, according to authorities. Authorities said they executed a search warrant at a house located on North 8th Street in Wytheville regarding possession and distribution of child exploitation material. The suspect was located and identified as 72-year-old William Walters who was arrested and charged with possessing and distributing child exploitation material, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said Walters admitted to investigators that he currently had and previously distributed several images of child pornography to other people. The Sheriff’s Office said further charges are expected after a digital forensics examination is completed on items collected at Walters' residence.

He was charged with possessing and distributing child exploitation material, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Walters admitted that he possessed and had distributed several images of child pornography to others, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said further charges are expected, pending a digital forensics examination of several items collected from Walters' residence.
Riding for hope: How a bike ride is giving back to the NRV
WYTHEVILLE, Va. – HOPE Inc. in Wytheville is asking you to grab your bike out of the garage or hop on an exercise bike to ride the distance and give back along the way. Friday, Oct. 16 is the first day of The Fast and the Fiorini 17th annual charity ride. The ride was created in 2004 and was originally named The Big Walker Ride, but was renamed after Ian Fiorini who was instrumental in starting the first ride. Before the pandemic, HOPE was housing one to two people in motels but since the COVID-19 outbreak, they hit a peak of 44 people a night. So know when you register to ride that fee will help fund hope when people need it the most.

WYTHEVILLE, Va. – Richdale Farm in Wytheville knows how to put the fun in agritourism. During the family farm’s festival, Fall on the Farm, you have a variety of activities to choose from. While picking pumpkins may be the initial reason families stop by, the hillside slide is the farm’s most popular activity. The farm has been in Crowgey’s family since 1876 but this is just their third year of hosting Fall on the Farm. Richdale Farm does more than just produce fun, they grow about half a million pounds of pumpkins a year.

Ford Motor Company donates 20,000 face shields, masks to Wytheville first responders
Ford Motor Company donated face masks and face shields to the Wytheville Fire & Rescue Department. The department plans to share the 18,000 face masks and 2,000 face shields with other first responders and public safety agencies in Wythe County. Authorities searching for two Wytheville teens last seen one month ago
WYTHEVILLE, Va. – Authorities say they are searching for two missing teen boys last seen in Wytheville one month ago. Officers responded to the Presbyterian Children’s Home in Wytheville on June 17 around 8:10 p.m. for a report of two teen boys who had walked of the property. According to police, 16-year-old Jacob Chambers and 17-year-old Daniel Thompson walked into a wooded area behind the home. Staff members told police that Chambers and Thompson were last seen between 6 and 6:30 that night. Authorities say they could still be in the area or they may have traveled to West Virginia.

According to police, Jessica Collier was last heard from July 12 at 6 a.m. Due to a text message she sent around that time, authorities believe she could be in danger. Crews rescue mother, two children, lost on Wytheville trail
WYTHEVILLE, Va. Three people are safe after getting lost while hiking in Wythe County on Thursday night. A woman was hiking with her two children when they got lost while hiking on the Boundrary Trail in the Crystal Springs Recreation Area, according to Wytheville Fire & Rescue. While she couldnt get a strong signal, she was able to text her husband letting them know they were lost. At about 8:45 p.m., they found the family and 45 minutes later, they were able to exit the trail. Members of Wytheville Fire and Rescue, Lead Mines Rescue, Speedwell Fire Department and the Wythe County Sheriffs Office all helped with the search.
Wytheville to host first ever Independence Illumination, July 4th decoration tour
“It was very sad to me because I love the 4th of July,” said Amy Wickham, Wytheville resident. “We’ve tried to stay away from the name “Christmas in July” and we went with the name “Independence Illumination.” I thought that sounded really grand,” said Wickham. The first ever Independence Illumination will officially start Friday, July 3rd and run through Sunday, July 5th, giving families something to do this holiday while social distancing. Man wanted for armed robbery, other charges after incident at Wytheville hotel
WYTHEVILLE, Va. – Wytheville authorities are searching for a man who is wanted on several charges, including armed robbery. According to police, Thorin Moulder has been charged with armed robbery, malicious wounding, assault and battery and obstruction of a 911 call. Officers say the charges stem from an incident that happened on June 9 at the OYO Hotel on East Main Street in Wtheyville. Anyone with information on Moulder’s location should call Det. Clinic that helps children with autism expands to New River Valley
WYTHEVILLE, Va. A business helping children with autism grow in communication is expanding to the New River Valley. ABC's of Applied Behavior Analysis opened in Salem in 2014, helping to meet a growing need for resources for children with autism. Staff said they always have a waitlist of anywhere from eight months to two years, so expanding to Wytheville will help with demand. We have also had many families move their entire life, uproot their whole family and have to move to the Roanoke Valley area because they don't have services where they lived, said Jude Gullion, ABC's of Applied Behavior Analysis staff. The new location in Wytheville is officially open for referrals.
