40-year-old Bedford man charged with capturing graphic images
BEDFORD, Va. โ The Bedford County Sheriffโs Office arrested a man for capturing graphic images on Friday. Authorities arrested 40-year-old Walter Thomas Smith, of Bedford, on one count of unlawful creation of a video graphic/still image of a minor and one count of unlawful creation of a video graphic/still image of an adult, according to the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office. The investigation was in connection with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Bedford County, Va. โ Normally during the holidays, you have to worry about porch pirates. The Bedford County Sheriffโs Office is warning residents to stay vigilant after reports of mail being stolen from mailboxes. People residing in Body Camp and Huddleston are reporting their mail being ripped open and then tossed on the side of the road. National Park Service identify body found in river as missing Bedford County man
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ UPDATEAuthorities identified the body that was found on Wednesday by multiple agencies. National Park Service along with the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office recovered a body near Rutrough Point on the Roanoke River. The park service says the body was that of missing 26-year-old Brent Gibson, of Bedford County. GOODVIEW, Va. โ A Bedford County man has been charged with ten counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office. Perry William โBillโ Rose, 70, of Goodview was arrested by investigators on the Southern Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, authorities said. Bedford County Sheriffโs Office approved to apply for new body cameras
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ The Bedford County Sheriffโs Office is taking another step in protecting the community and its deputies. It can now apply for a grant to purchase 15 new body cameras, after getting approval from the Bedford County Board of Supervisors on Monday. The Sheriffโs Office currently has about 70 cameras, but this will replace those that are worn out and take months to repair. The technology is used whenever a deputy is out of a patrol car and helps assure transparency. The $10,000 grant also requires a 50% match from the Sheriffโs Office.

Spike strips end New Yearโs Day pursuit in Bedford County
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ A 24-year-old Lynchburg man is in jail after a chase early on New Yearโs Day that began in Lynchburg and ended in Bedford County, according to authorities. At 1:35 a.m., the Lynchburg Police Department alerted the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office that a vehicle its officers were pursuing on U.S. 460 was heading in Bedford County. The person being pursued was wanted in connection with an assault and battery investigation, according to the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office. Once Bedford County deputies joined the pursuit, the pursued driver, hit a county EMS vehicle twice before he was able to pass it, according to the Sheriffโs Office. In Bedford County, Johnson is charged with felony eluding, felony assault and battery of EMS and driving without a license.

Woman arrested for grand larceny of firearms, motor vehicle in Bedford County
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ A woman was arrested Saturday for stealing a motor vehicle among other belongings from a Bedford property back in November. On Nov. 30, the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office responded to a residence on the 6000 block of Stewartsville Road for a burglary. Authorities said the victim reported the larceny of โmany firearms, tools, cash and a motor vehicleโ from the property. According to the Sheriffโs Office, Shannon Elaine Halton was taken into custody by members of the US Marshals Task Force on Dec. 19. Halton, who was previously considered a fugitive by authorities, was wanted for burglary and two counts of grand larceny.

Bedford County drug roundup nets 24 arrests, 10 still wanted

Drugs, thousands in cash seized in Bedford County traffic stop turned home search
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ A man is facing several charges after a traffic stop turned into a search warrant for a Bedford County home, according to the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office. Authorities say information from the traffic stop on Friday developed into a search of a home in the 2200 block of Five Forks Road. Around three ounces of meth and heroin, a firearm and a cash value of $3,054 were seized during the search, according to the sheriffโs office. Justin Butler was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute meth and heroin, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with schedule 1 or 2 drugs. Butler is being held on no bond at Bedford Detention Center.

Authorities are working to learn the identities of two persons of interest in connection with the incidents. 45-year-old Carlos Rose was reported missing out of the Boonsboro area on Tuesday, according to the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office. Man arrested after authorities say he stole trimmer from Bedford County hardware store
MONETA, Va. โ A Bedford man is facing charges after authorities say he stole a trimmer from a local hardware store. On Oct. 2, the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office says it received a call that a Stihl String Trimmer had been stolen from Moneta Farm and Home Center. Deputies say they received tips on the theft throughout the weekend and investigators were able to identify and arrest a suspect. Ronald Allen of Bedford has been charged with one count of petit larceny in connection to the theft, and authorities say other charges may be pending.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. โ Authorities are searching for the man they say robbed a Moneta convenience store on Thursday. The robber walked into Lakers Country Store on Moneta Road wearing a red-and-black bucket hat and a blue bandana. He demanded money, according to the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office. The robber is believed to be somewhere between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. Suspect arrested after an assault on a realtor showing property at an open house in Bedford County
UPDATE:A man has been arrested after a realtor was assaulted near Smith Mountain Lake State Park. The Bedford County Sheriffโs Office obtained warrants on and arrested 34-year-old Dustin R. Holdren of Roanoke, Virginia on Sunday. โWe host open houses, and I host open houses myself, and sometimes you just canโt control who comes through the door.โGrewe recommends realtors never show houses alone in the wake of this assault. Gardner was an investigator with the Bedford County Sheriffโs Office in the 1980s and has worked his way up to major. Up until now, Gardner has been silent on one criminal case for the last three decades. โCommon sense tells you, the only two people that benefited from the death of her parents was Soering and Elizabeth. Jens Soering and Elizabeth Haysom, who were convicted for the murder of Haysomโs parents, Derek and Nancy in 1985, were granted parole last week. Gardner tells 10 News he plans to retire next year and is glad this case was put to rest before leaving the sheriffโs office.
