Danville Police searching for two men in connection to hotel robbery

Danville Police said they responded to a report of a robbery that happened in the 3500 block of West Main Street. The victim told the police that he was having drinks at a hotel room with two men who he didn’t know before one of the men pulled out a gun, hit him on his head and demanded that he give him his wallet. The victim cooperated and the police said that the two men stole some of his stuff before leaving in a white Nissan sedan with Virginia license plates. Police said that the victim had a cut on his head from the assault.
Roanoke police say online tool for reporting crime now running smoothly
Roanoke, Va. – Struggling with fewer officers and minimal interaction because of the coronavirus pandemic, Roanoke police are pushing for people to take advantage of their online reporting tool to report non-emergency crimes. The tool was launched back in November, but so far, only about 75 reports have been collected. Created by its own IT department, Roanoke police said that the feature is also cost-efficient and secures the database of information. Though police are hopeful for the new feature, similar online tools have shown not to be a hit everywhere. AdThe Danville Police Department launched a similar feature last April.
Eight indicted on drug charges in ‘Operation Justice Without Borders,’ Danville police say
Eight people have been charged and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs have been seized in Operation Justice Without Borders, according to the Danville Police Department. During the investigation, authorities said several people were identified as being responsible for trafficking illegal drugs, specifically heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine, across state lines. “That’s why the partnership was obviously so important to us,” said Lt. David Whitley with the Danville Police Department. CORRECTION: Danville Police released a correction. Their original release listed 12 people that were indicted, then corrected to say 10 people were indicted.
Human remains found in Danville identified as missing Pittsylvania County man
Skeletal human remains that were found in Danville have been identified as a man missing out of Pittsylvania County, according to the Danville Police Department. Authorities said they started an investigation after workers that were cleaning trees along a power line right-of-way found skeletal remains on Dec. 8. Robert Hurt’s family reported him missing in December 2018 when his truck was found empty on Goodyear Blvd. Police said they told his family on Thursday night that the skeletal remains were identified as Hurt. AdAccording to police, Hurt’s remains showed no sign of obvious trauma but authorities are still waiting on a full autopsy report.
Danville Police complete HEART walk to check up on community after Wednesday’s deadly shooting
DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police continue to search for the 19-year-old they consider “armed and dangerous” in connection to Wednesday’s deadly shooting that took the life of 21-year-old Jaylan Fitzgerald. Police were in the area where it happened, not to find more information on their investigation, but to check up on the community. Officers completed their HEART walk on Cabell Street, where Wednesday’s homicide happened, to check up on the people in the neighborhood Thursday afternoon. The goal is to show that police care about the community and to make sure everyone is coping and authorities typically do this after a crime happens in the neighborhood. AdThis is the third homicide on Cabell Street in the past four years as well as the second homicide for Danville in 2021.

Danville police arrest man they say shot an 18-year-old early Thursday morning
DANVILLE, Va – Authorities arrested Deauntae Dawson on Thursday afternoon without incident, according to the Danville Police Department. ORIGINAL STORYDanville police are searching for the man they believe is responsible for shooting an 18-year-old early Thursday morning. The Danville Lifesaving Crew transported the victim, an 18-year-old Danville man in critical condition, to Sovah Health Danville where he was later taken to Duke University Hospital. Most recently, he was listed in serious, but stable condition, according to police. The Pittsylvania County man left the scene before officers arrived; however, police later found his vehicle abandoned near Kentuck Road and the Danville city limits.
13-year-old girl found safe after being reported missing out of Danville

Danville Police Department launches neighborhood-oriented policing model
DANVILLE, Va. – A new year, a new way of policing. The Danville Police Department just launched what they refer to as a neighborhood-oriented policing model. The first is that the city is broken up geographically into four quarters: northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest. If something major happens, the department will pull officers from other zones to help out. They hope the changes will help officers and the community know one another better.
